At once delightful and difficult; when approached respectfully can ignite our life force and burn through accumulated blockages and impurities. They lengthen the hip flexors and help open up the shoulders and chest. In equal measure they build strength and power throughout the body. Backbends awaken the spine and nervous system, banishing melancholy and torpor. Their many blessings come also with with dangers – sensitivity and intelligence is crucial to the long term practice of backbends.

Inversions, yoga poses practiced upside-down, are strong medicine. They reverse the effects of time and gravity, enhance circulation of vital fluids, release binding of the organs, and stimulate intuition and mental clarity. Inversions open the shoulder girdle and develop core stability. This class focuses on fundamentals and refinement of the 5 basic inversions: shoulder-stand, head-stand, downward-facing-dog, hand-stand, and forearm-stand. Emphasis on developing essential skills and conditioning for safety and comfort.
No inversion experience is necessary but some experience in yoga is helpful. You will be supported to work at your level.
